E-newsletter from the Office of Family Engagement

WE DID IT!

We made it through the academic year 2020-21. Despite COVID — and even with all the changes, pivots, and adjustments — our students, faculty, and staff persevered and found a way to make it work.

A giant thank you to our students for their grit and grace this year. We needed them to be flexible, adaptable, and responsible beyond their years. And they rose to the occasion.

Another giant thank you to our faculty for their ability to adjust their teaching practices to the realities of the pandemic. Their job was herculean, and yet they found new ways to teach and engage our students, always faithful to our academic mission.

Yet another giant thank you to our staff. We enrolled almost everyone into the pandemic army in one way or another. People's jobs changed, they took on new roles, learned more about COVID than we could ever imagine. And, to our leadership team, too — thank you for steering the Wake Forest ship no matter how stormy the seas got.

Last — but certainly not least — thank you to our parents and families. This year was not easy for you either. In addition to the normal worries that families have in every year of college, the pandemic added extra layers of stress and concern. Thank you for continuing to put your faith in Wake Forest.

Congratulations to the Class of 2021 and our P'21 families. You will always hold special places in the Wake Forest family. And to all our current and incoming students and families — we look forward to making 2021-22 all it can be!

Go Deacs!

Incoming Families of the Class of 2025

The New Students Website is live! Students and families can access their respective sections of the website. Please check the website regularly, as things will be added throughout the summer, or updated as we get new COVID guidance.

Two virtual New Student Receptions are scheduled for June 22 and July 14; details and registration are here. In addition to joining us at one of the virtual options, we hope that you will register for a local reception should one be offered in your area. Check back at this site throughout the summer.

During the month of June, new students are encouraged to contact the Office of Academic Advising to have a telephone advising session with a member of our staff. Students should follow the schedule here and should use Forestry 101, the New Students website, and other resources to prepare specific questions. Please note:

  • Due to volume, we cannot offer multiple telephone advising sessions, so please have your student prepare their questions, as much as possible, ahead of time. After their advising session, if they have additional questions, we will ask that they direct those to us via email at undergraduateadvising@wfu.edu. This email address is monitored closely, and your student will typically receive a reply within 48 hours.
  • We will be accepting advising calls Monday - Friday, June 7 - July 2, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EDT. No appointment is necessary, but students must call during their assigned week (see schedule above). The University will be closed on Friday, June 18th in observance of Juneteenth.

New incoming students will receive a link to an online Course Preference Survey this summer via their WFU email. Incoming first-year students will be registering for a maximum of 17 credit hours between July 12-16.

WakeWare, the student laptop program, purchasing opens June 1! WakeWare laptops are guaranteed to work with all academic software, have educational-based pricing, provide loaner laptops in case repairs are needed, and have built-in accidental damage protection. If having the newest model available or taking advantage of back-to-school promotions is important to you, we encourage you to wait until later in the summer to make your purchase. Learn more about the differences between buying an Apple through WakeWare and the Apple Store. Contact the WakeWare with any questions you may have at WakeWare@wfu.edu.

The Office of Civic & Community Engagement will host two Pre-Orientation programs for incoming students: Deacon Camp and SPARC. Each program provides incoming students a different Pre-Orientation experience and introduction to Wake Forest. Applications can be completed online and are due by June 7 with students accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until all spots have been filled.

There are a variety of other Pre-Orientation programs, which are run by various offices on campus. We encourage incoming students with interest to apply as soon as possible.

We use email to communicate with families. Please be sure you have completed your Family Record Form, and consider subscribing to the Daily Deac blog. We also ask you to read our Family Communications Guidelines and Philosophy.

Please be sure to read the rest of this enewsletter, P'25s, as the sections that follow contain general information for all families; we want to make sure you are aware of all parent and family information.

Campus Safety

Wake Forest University Police:

  • We encourage students and families to use the summer to review crime prevention and safety tips, as well as emergency situations and how to respond. It is best to familiarize yourselves with these procedures before you need them, and bookmark these pages for later reference during the school year.
  • Parents and families can sign up to receive crime alerts on the Wake Ready website, in addition to downloading the LiveSafe app. While crime alerts are sent in real time to students, faculty and staff, they are not for others. For those registered through Wake Ready, crime alerts are emailed daily at noon, but only if new alerts have been posted in the previous 24 hours.

Any emails that are sent to students, faculty, and staff are archived on the Family News website.
