Winter Break To-Do List for Seniors

Do you need to start your job or internship search but have been putting it off until you had more time?

Have you been hoping to build meaningful connections and grow your network but just haven’t done it?

We understand – it’s been a long semester (okay fine, it’s been a long year or two). But we also know that it’s the halfway point in the year, and your time to job/internship search and build relationships is getting crunched. So we want to help you to maximize your time!

There is no better time to work on all those things you’ve been putting on the backburner throughout the semester than during winter break! We’ve put together a few key resources to tap into over your break, while still allowing time to rest and enjoy family, too.

JUMPSTART: A Job Search Strategy Prep Course

Resource #1: JUMPSTART Job Search Strategy Prep Course

This online course is short, sweet, and easy for kicking off your job search. It includes four basic modules for creating a job target, refining your marketing tools, leveraging your network, and creating an action plan. You can enroll in this Canvas course using this link

Resource #2: Office of Personal & Career Development

The OPCD is your go-to place for career support during your time at Wake Forest. Over winter break, visit the OPCD website for resources to help you create a resume, craft a cover letter, explore career fields, etc. Also, make sure you’re using Handshake, the one-stop shop for searching and applying to jobs and internships! To request a career coaching appointment and/or submit your resume for review, reach out to the OPCD when campus offices re-open on January 4, 2022.

CORE FOUR: relationship-building action items for seniors

Resource #3: COREFour

Our COREFour competency areas focus on building the relational and personal skills that make you a rock star at the career search. Winter break is a great time to practice these skills when you can give them more energy than you have during the school year! We’ve broken them down into some realistic steps for your time frame:

  1. Reach out to 3 contacts for informational interviews.
  2. Set 1 goal that you want to achieve over break.
  3. Seek feedback from 5 people
  4. Reflect on 4 questions

Resource #4: National Mentoring Month 2022 – Build Relationships, Grow Your Network

Each January we welcome students back to campus by celebrating National Mentoring Month. This year’s theme is focused on the importance of learning how to build relationships in order to grow your network. Get a sneak peak of the resources we’ll be providing in January 2022, including a step-by-step guide for how to reach out to new contacts and build meaningful relationships.

We hope that your work over winter break will allow you to rest a little easier to enjoy your spring semester even more!
