A word about dates.

We want your student’s transition to Wake Forest to be as smooth as possible. While most of the action items are for your student to do, there are some important action items for families. Please consult this page regularly from May until Move-In and take care of all tasks by their deadlines. We encourage families to consult this online checklist and not print it out, as it is possible that new items will be added or dates changed if needed.

FYIMay 1New Student website goes live. Visit often throughout the summer, as new information is continually added. Pay special attention to the Parents & Families section.
TO-DOBy May 13Schedule any needed vaccines for your student. Students will need their immunization records, including names of vaccines, dates given, healthcare provider signature, clinic’s address, phone number, and facility stamp (or official government stamp) in order to complete required forms in the Deacon Health Portal. Allow time for their doctor’s office to provide the needed paperwork.
FYIBy May 21Consider making lodging reservations for Family Weekend (September 27-29, 2024).

There are many hotels in Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and High Point, many families also consider Airbnb, VRBO, etc.

June

FYIIn JuneConsider making flexible hotel reservations for Move-In. Please be aware of the following dates:

  • August 16 or 17: Move-in for students enrolled in optional Pre-Orientation programs (Your student’s approved arrival date will be communicated directly to them by the Office of Residence Life and Housing).
  • August 21: New Student Move-in Day (For those students who are not attending Pre-Orientation)

Note: If you make hotel or airline reservations now, be aware that you may need to adjust them once your student finds out if they have been accepted to a Pre-Orientation program. Students will be notified in batches between June 5 and July 7. You may want to delay making arrangements (or make easily changeable plans) until your student’s move-in day is confirmed.

DUEJune 1Verify your family record in Wake Network. Please review your family record as soon as possible, and no later than June 1st.
FYIJune 1Ensure your student has a plan to have a laptop, as they are required. Starting June 1, new academic year WakeWare laptops will be available for purchase online (or in the Bookstore).

If your student plans to bring their own laptop, be sure to check to see what the
BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) requirements are.
FYIJune 1Talk to your student about having them make you an authorized payer (third party access) in Workday. This allows you to receive notifications of tuition bills and other payments due (strongly recommended that all students authorize a third-party payer).
FYIJune 17Sign up to attend a virtual New Student Reception on June 17, and sign up for in-person New Student Receptions if one is offered in your area.
TO-DOJune 19Put a reminder in your calendar for Family Weekend registration, which will open in July (date TBA). Family Weekend is scheduled for September 27-29.

July

DUEJuly 1Students must have completed the health information and immunization forms available in their Deacon Health Portal. All new undergraduate and graduate students are required to be up to date with vaccines required by the University and the State of North Carolina to be able to attend fall classes.
FYIJuly 1Enrollment opens for the Health Insurance Enrollment/Waiver Form process; you must enroll or waive coverage or you will be charged for WFU student insurance. A link will be provided once available.

TO-DOAugust 2Determine if you will ship items to campus. While this is not a formal deadline, you will want to allow enough time for any packages to be sent to campus in time for move-in.

FYIAugust 16 & 17Move-in dates for students enrolled in a Pre-Orientation Program (optional). Approved arrival date is dependent on the program and will be communicated directly to the student by the Office of Residence Life and Housing.
FYIAugust 21New Student Move-in Day (for those not attending Pre-Orientation session).
FYIAugust 21-22New Deac Week Parents & Families Orientation Sessions (strongly encouraged). For travel planning purposes, family orientation activities begin on August 21 and will conclude by 7:30 p.m. on August 22.
