The Office of Personal and Career Development (OPCD) has shared the following information for families:

Career Readiness Funds

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the OPCD is pleased to offer stipends for students with financial needs who have secured unpaid internships for the summer. As of today, there are still a few stipends available and your student can apply here.

Opportunities Abound

It’s not too late for your students to find summer internships for 2022 or full-time positions upon or soon after graduation in May. The job market remains hot with many great opportunities still available. For select industries (such as financial services and consulting), summer 2023 internship recruiting is already in full swing. Handshake is the best source for students to search and apply to over 20,000 available opportunities. When students update and complete their profiles, employers can find and contact them.

College Students

  • If your student needs to “get ready” for the job search, they can access new online career course content, “Career Core,” featuring our own Heidi Robinson.
  • Here are some great suggestions on what your student can do to work, serve, and learn this summer.
  • Encourage your student to take a look at the “Making the Most of Your Internship” for useful advice prior to starting work this summer.
  • We are OPEN this summer! Whatever your student might need to prepare for the coming year, they can schedule an appointment with a career coach by clicking here.

School of Business Students

  • School of Business Market Readiness and Employment (MRE) career coaches support students year-round. Students can contact their career coach directly or make an appointment through Handshake.
  • The “MRE 2022 Kick Starter” job search resource is available for your student through Canvas. In addition to the Kick-Starter 101 Outline/Checklist, four online modules include:
    • Career Exploration
    • Job Search Basics
    • Networking and Connections
    • Interview Strategies

More resources are available through the MRE website MRE School of Business and the OPCD website at https://opcd.wfu.edu/.
