Move-in day is almost here! It’s almost the start of the semester, and we can’t wait to have all our new and returning students back on campus.
As we start the new academic year, we want to draw your attention to several important items for families:
How families can opt in to receive Campus Security Alerts — NEW PROCESS
- We are pleased to let you know that we now have the capability to include families in campus security alerts through the Wake Safe app. If you wish to receive security alerts:
- Search for and download the Wake Safe app on your mobile device in the app store.
- You will see a popup asking you to Allow Notifications. Tap Allow.
Once you have downloaded Wake Safe and enabled notifications, If a campus alert is issued, you will receive a notice on your mobile device.
- Double check your phone’s settings: in your Settings, go to Wake Safe and ensure that you have selected Allow Notifications (we encourage you to select Immediate notifications and to allow both Sounds and Badges).
- Important note: If you take no action and do not download Wake Safe, you will not receive campus security alerts when they go out to the campus community. Wake Forest will no longer be sending separate campus safety alert emails or Wake Ready alert messages to families. Campus security alerts will still be included in the Daily Deac blog.
Health insurance
- ALL students of all years need to either waive or enroll in our student insurance program before school begins. You can find information here.
Student phone numbers for emergency text messages
- Ensure your student has provided their mobile number for campus security alerts. Undergraduate students are required to provide their cell phone number, as we need to be able to text them in a campus emergency.
Tuition insurance (optional)
- An unexpected withdrawal due to sickness or injury can mean significant financial consequences for families. Wake Forest offers an elective tuition insurance plan through A.W.G. Dewar, Inc. (a program going on 15+ years) that will help minimize financial loss if a student suffers a serious illness or accident and must withdraw before the end of a semester.
Family Weekend event tickets and football tickets
- If you have not already registered for Family Weekend general event tickets, please visit their website and register.
- Many of the events involving a meal are sold out (or close to sold out) but don’t let that worry you! For your students, one of the highlights of Family Weekend is having their loved ones take them out to eat :) and our upperclass families have provided a list of local restaurants they love.
Check out the list and consider making reservations at the spot(s) of your choosing (if applicable).
- Please visit the Athletics website to purchase Family Weekend football tickets and parking. NOTE: if your student wants to sit with you, you will need to purchase a separate ticket for them. There are less than 1,000 seats available for this game, so don’t wait!
- To inquire about PREMIUM SEATING OPTIONS, call the ticket office at 336-758-3322 ext 1 or email hobanj@wfu.edu.
- The Demon Deacons will face off against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Saturday, September 23.
- We will know kickoff time about 10 days before the game (due to the potential for television scheduling).
We encourage all families to review our How We Communicate website at the start of each semester, as this has information about how Wake Forest communicates with families, our philosophy on how both families and the University can work to support our students, and more.
It’s going to be a great year! Go Deacs!
Betsy Chapman, Ph.D. (’92, MA ’94) Executive Director of Family Communications

Incoming families of the Class of 2027
|
From the Office of Academic Advising:
- Students completed their course registration and Guided Pre-Registration Surveys in July. Students will have the opportunity to adjust their schedule, as course availability allows, after they have met with their assigned academic adviser on August 25 during New Deac Week.
- Students can visit the New Student Website regarding deadlines and instructions that will help prepare for their transition to Wake Forest.
From the From Global Programs and Studies (GPS):
- Does your child find it challenging to answer the question “where are you from”? Are they a U.S. citizen who grew up abroad, moved around the world due to a parent's career, or were raised within a multicultural or immigrant family? If yes, the Center for Global Programs & Studies (GPS) invites them (and you!) to have lunch with other first-year students who can relate on Thursday, August 24, during New Deac Week.
- Third Culture Kids (TCKs) are often caught between cultures because their multi-layered identities are not easily categorized on official documents. GPS aims to connect them with peers in order to find camaraderie while adjusting to the academic, social, and cultural aspects of WFU. Interested in learning more? Have your student submit this form to get connected and RSVP for the lunch. Contact Sandra Lisle McMullen at mcmullsl@wfu.edu or +1.336.758.4889 with any questions.
From Student Financial Services:
- ALL students must choose to enroll in or waive the Student Blue Insurance (health insurance premium) before August 31st. Please visit the Student Insurance website for additional information and instruction.
