Congratulations to our NCAA Championship Men’s Tennis Team!
Happy Summer, Deac families! While normally summer is a quieter time on campus, we do have big news on a couple of fronts:
Congratulations to our Men’s Tennis Team! Back in May, our Wake Forest men's tennis team claimed the NCAA National Championship with a 4-2 victory over No. 2-seeded TCU. Wake Forest is one of two ACC schools to win multiple national titles, and one of just seven NCAA programs to do so. You can see full coverage here. Go Deacs!
In regional news, Wake Forest is dramatically increasing its impact in North Carolina by opening a new academic campus in The Pearl, Charlotte’s innovation district. Anchored by the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, the expansion is poised to transform medical education, research and economic development. Charlotte has long been the largest U.S. city without a four-year medical school. That will change in July, when Wake Forest School of Medicine opens its Charlotte campus and welcomes the inaugural class of medical students. Read the full story.
A little closer to home, we are working hard on plans for Family Weekend 2025, which is set for September 26-28. Here are some key points to know about Family Weekend:
- Event registration will open on July 8th at 10 a.m. Here is the tentative schedule for the weekend:
- On Friday, the 26th, Registration and check-in (i.e., packet pickup) for Family Weekend will begin at 10 a.m. We will host our annual Deacon Family Festivities that afternoon, followed by the Night of Student Entertainment. There will be several dining options available both on and off-campus for your dining pleasure.
- On Saturday, the 27th will host a variety of pre-game activities, which include access to the student tailgate area before the Wake Forest vs. GA Tech football game. Access to the student tailgate area will require the Family Weekend credential and a game ticket.
- On Sunday, the 28th, we conclude the weekend with a farewell brunch (tickets sold separately). Other activities and experiences such as tours, lectures, presentations, and the like are currently being planned for Friday as well.
- More information will be available at familyweekend.wfu.edu in early July. For now, mark your calendars and plan to order your event tickets on July 8th.
Wishing you and yours a happy, healthy summer. Go Deacs!

Message from the Parents’ Council chairs Karin and Charles Goldstuck (P ’23, P ’25)
|
May’s Commencement Weekend was a wonderful time on campus. Congratulations again to the Class of 2025! And congratulations as well to the Men’s Tennis Team for capturing the NCAA Championship title! While campus may be a bit quieter during the summer months, it is still alive with energy from our summer school Deacs, the WFU Summer Immersion programs, and prospective students and families visiting campus. Additionally, some members of the Class of 2029 and their families are gathering across the country for New Student Receptions, building their Wake Forest community before they arrive on campus in August.
The new school year will be here before we know it, so we encourage all students to enjoy their summer break before heading back to Winston-Salem. It has been a privilege for Karin and I to serve as Chairs of the Parents’ Council this year, and we are happy to welcome Meredith and Brian Feurtado (P ’26, P ’28) of Greenwich, CT as incoming Chairs for next year. Best wishes to you and yours for a safe and happy summer. Go Deacs!

For New Families of students in the Class of 2029
|
- Sign up for our Virtual New Student Reception on June 24. (We are also planning in-person New Student Receptions in locations with a sizable amount of incoming students. The list is not yet finalized, so keep checking our website to see if additional dates or locations are added. We regret that we cannot offer them in all areas where our Deacs live.)
- While your student does not need a physical to attend Wake Forest, students need to be up to date on the list of required vaccines. Students and their healthcare provider need to complete the health information and immunization forms (HIIF) available in their Deacon Health Portal by July 1. You will want to allow ample time for your student to get needed vaccines and get their documentation from their physician, so plan appropriately.
- From CLASS — Center for Learning, Access, and Student Success
- Mark your calendars! CLASS (Center for Learning, Access, and Student Success) will offer a Meet the Director virtual webinars for incoming students and families on Wednesday July 23rd at 6 p.m. and Wednesday July 30th at 6 p.m. Dr. Michael Shuman will provide information on the accommodations process and be ready to answer any questions you may have. Notes:
- The webinar link will be provided in the July Wake Parents & Families enewsletter.
- Since students may ask individual disability related questions, these sessions will not be recorded.
- If your student needs learning accommodations, make sure they submit a disability-related academic accommodation request with supporting documentation (if applicable). Students have the opportunity to schedule their meeting with a CLASS provider via Zoom and get their learning accommodations in place before arriving on campus. Taking this step during the summer will make for a smoother start to the semester for your student.
- If your student submitted an academic accommodation request, make sure to have them check their Wake Forest email account for a message from CLASS. Follow up instructions are sent via email.
- If you can’t find an answer on our website or via campus offices, you can email parents@wfu.edu for help. You can also follow our official WFU social media accounts.

- Students looking for last minute Summer Session classes can still register for Session II. If you have recently been accepted to begin at Wake Forest in fall 2025, consider getting started early by taking some classes this summer. Current WFU students can register for Session II classes in Workday through July 10 (please note, classes begin on July 8). Please contact us with any questions.
From the School of Business:
- There is still time to register for SportsBIZ, an exciting and very unique program, offered only in the summer, in which students gain business knowledge while learning all about sports-business! ENROLL NOW @ business.wfu.edu/business-of-sports. Contact Amy Viola at violaaj@wfu.edu with any questions.
From the of Department of Military Science:
- If your student is looking for a unique addition to their Wake Forest experience or they want to expand their understanding of the military, encourage them to try out a Military Science course: MIL 121: Introduction to the Army is open to all students. If they want to learn more about joining ROTC and earning scholarship money, reach out to us at ROTC@wfu.edu.
From the University Bookstore:
- If your student is taking classes in Summer Session 2, ensure your student buys their textbooks/course materials:
- It is recommended that they buy through our University Bookstore, which students can access using this handy QR code.
- The Bookstore offers textbooks with many options to choose from: new or used, rentals (save up to 80%), digital, and a price match (check Bookstore website for details).
- In addition, often textbooks have various editions, and if your Deac tries to source their textbooks on their own, they may not find the right edition. But if your student buys from the Bookstore, they will get 100% of their course materials just by entering their Student ID.

From the University Counseling Center (UCC):
- The University Counseling Center continues to be a support to students who desire to talk to a professional about a multitude of things throughout the summer months.
- Due to licensure restrictions, we are only able to offer therapy services to students who are in the state of North Carolina. For students located outside of North Carolina, we offer case management and referral support to assist with finding providers in other areas.
- We offer same-day scheduling for virtual or in-person appointments during office hours, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We also offer an after-hours counselor-on-call after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays and 24 hours a day on weekends and university holidays/closures.
- Please follow our Instagram for more information and content!
From the Office of Student Financial Aid:
- 2025-26 financial aid notifications for continuing students with completed applications will be available by early July.
- If your student is eligible for the North Carolina Need-Based Scholarship, please ensure the Residency Determination Service (RDS) is complete — if it is, we’ll begin loading that information after July 1.
- A quick reminder: only aid your student accepts will appear on the billing statement, and reporting any external scholarships to our office will help ensure an accurate account balance.
From the Office of Personal and Career Development (OPCD):
- Don’t let the summer drift away! Your student still has access to robust career resources all summer. OPCD and MRE (Market Readiness and Employment) Coaches are actively assisting with current internship and job searches, as well as planning for the Fall recruiting season. And new opportunities are posted to Handshake every day.
- opcd.wfu.edu: Encourage your student to get in touch — it’s never too late to explore options and get some guidance.
From Residence Life and Housing:
- We hope you’re enjoying summer break and staying cool! This month, we have reminders for July dates and deadlines (including Summer Session II), important information for families whose students are participating in the second round of housing selection, and reminders for the return to campus in August — we can hardly wait! Read more.
From Student Financial Services:
- In preparation for Fall 2025, please ensure your student adds you as an authorized payer on Workday to ensure statement notifications are sent to you. You can find instructions for third party account authorization on the SFS website.
- We will begin billing for the fall semester on July 2nd.
From Deacon Dining:
- Reminder summer meal plans are available for summer session 1 and 2.

From CARE Case Management:
- At Wake Forest, “We Are Wake” is our campus-wide commitment to understanding what distress looks like and taking care of ourselves and one another. If your Deac is navigating academic challenges, seeking their place, or needing emotional support, our Care Case Managers are here to help. Simply call 336.758.CARE (2273) or reach out to us, and we'll extend caring outreach to connect them with campus resources tailored to their individual needs.
- Our case managers embody the “We Are Wake” spirit by listening to Deacs' stories, offering private, non-confidential support, and meeting regularly to help them thrive. We believe in a truly caring community where many want to help. Parents, family members, faculty, students, and staff can easily refer any Deac, and students can also refer themselves.
- What concerns do we support? We assist Deacs with a wide range of concerns, including academic, emotional, financial, social, housing, family, mental health stressors and much more!
- How do we help? We offer regular meetings, connect Deacs to resources, provide them with non-time-limited support, and advocate when needed. Supports include the University Counseling Center, the Office of Wellbeing, the Office of Academic Advising, CLASS, Student Engagement, the Office of the Chaplain, Financial Aid, and other partners.
- Is CARE confidential? No. However, we are a private resource. Information is primarily protected by FERPA, and we preserve student privacy, but we are mandated reporters for Title IX concerns. We are happy to help students connect with confidential resources!
- We Are Wake means support is always available — we’re here 24/7! Call 336.758.CARE (2273) anytime to make a referral, email care@wfu.edu, or use our referral form at we.wfu.edu. Crisis counselors are available after business hours to help with emergent needs.
