Ellie Howell (’25) performs ‘For Good’ from the Broadway musical Wicked on stage with Kristin Chenoweth at our Face to Face Speaker Forum.

How is it possible that the end of the semester is upon us? Commencement is about a month away, and families of seniors should review the Commencement website for information and details as they plan their trip here for their Deacs' big day.

We had some big news last week: our Face to Face Speaker Forum has announced its 2023-24 lineup:

  • Doris Kearns Goodwin and Michael Beschloss — Presidential historian, political commentator, and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Doris Kearns Goodwin meets Presidential historian and best-selling author Michael Beschloss for a conversation. (September 27, 2023, Wait Chapel)
  • Daymond John, CEO and Founder of American hip-hop apparel company FUBU, is a pioneer in the fashion industry and is known for his commentary on ABC TV’s business reality show Shark Tank, where he demonstrates his marketing prowess and business insights. (November 1, 2023, Wait Chapel)
  • Liz Cheney and Jon Meacham — Former U.S. representative Liz Cheney served as the U.S. representative for Wyoming’s at-large congressional district from 2017 to 2023 and is co-author, along with her father Dick Cheney, of, “Exceptional: Why the World Needs a Powerful America.” Jon Meacham, American writer, reviewer, historian and presidential biographer will join Cheney. (February 22, 2024, Wait Chapel)
  • Trevor Noah, a South African comedian, writer, producer, political commentator, actor and the former host of The Daily Show. Noah is the author of the New York Times bestseller “Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood” and founder of the Trevor Noah Foundation to improve equitable access to quality education for underserved youth in South Africa. (April 17, 2024, Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum)

Students are invited to attend special student-only events with the Face to Face speakers free of charge. For families who might want to attend, season subscriptions to the Face to Face Speaker Forum are available on their website.

We also welcome all the new P’27 families whose students have enrolled at Wake Forest! On May 1, we will send the first of our weekly messages (from May 1 to move-in) to incoming families’ these weekly messages will have all the information you will need as your students start their Wake Forest journey.

So many exciting things to look forward to! Go Deacs!

Incoming families of the Class of 2027

The New Students website will go live on May 1. Please note that all information currently on that website was for the Class of 2026, and is not for your incoming ’27 students. We will send all P’27 families an email on May 1st once the new site is ready for you and your students.

We include P’27s in this e-newsletter so that you can see how we communicate with Wake Forest families. Please remember that the details and deadlines in the remaining sections of this e-newsletter only apply to currently-enrolled students (Classes of 2023-2026), not your incoming Deacs.

Academics and Study Abroad

From the Office of Academic Advising (OAA):

  • The last day to withdraw from a second part-of-term course with a grade of “W” was April 7.
  • The last day to change from a course that was initially designated pass/fail to a letter grade in an approved full-term course was April 7.
  • Registration for Summer 2023 Sessions began March 13 and ends May 26.
  • Registration for Fall 2023 classes took place in two phases beginning March 27 and ended April 8. By now, all students should be registered for a full-time schedule unless they have been approved for part-time status.
  • It’s not too early to be approved for part-time status for the fall! If your student plans to take less than 12 credit hours during the Fall 2023 semester, they need to visit the part-time status webpage on our website and fill out the part-time status petition form. This can be done at any time prior to the fall add deadline (Sept. 5), but it is financially advantageous to do so before the first day of class (Aug. 22)!
  • If your student wishes to take more than 17 hours for the Fall 2023 semester, they will need to discuss their request with their academic adviser. The adviser should then email undergraduateadvising@wfu.edu with their approval of the student’s request noting the exact hours the student is requesting.
  • Spring 2023 classes end on April 26. Final exams begin on April 28 and last until May 5 with Reading Days scheduled for April 27, April 30, and May 1.
  • Commencement activities for the Class of 2023 will take place on Monday, May 15. More information about Commencement can be found here.

From Global Programs and Studies (GPS): If your student plans to study abroad in the coming months, please remember that their passport must be valid for at least six months past the anticipated end of their study abroad program. If your student needs to obtain or renew a passport, it can take several weeks to a few months. The most recent guidance from the State Department regarding processing times can be found here. Contact the Center for Global Programs and Studies if you have any questions!

From Summer Session:

  • Summer Session offers a wide variety of classes for students seeking to get ahead or catch up on needed credit hours. This year we are offering both in-person and online classes so your student can stay connected with Wake Forest regardless of where they are living during the summer.
  • The Summer Session website is your one stop shop for all undergraduate summer information. Registration for Summer Session will run through the beginning of Summer Session I until May 25. We also accept visiting college students from other universities and rising high school juniors and seniors, so spread the word to your family and friends!
  • Please contact the Center for Global Programs and Studies if you are interested in summer abroad programs, as these may have different application and registration dates. For all other inquiries regarding summer classes at Wake Forest, contact us.

  • CLASS academic coaches are ready to help students finish strong. They can work with your student on exam prep, study skills, test taking strategies, time management, reading strategies, and more. An academic coach is a supportive accountability partner who can be a game changer! Students can meet weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or randomly - each session is one-on-one and confidential. Encourage your students to meet with an Academic Coach.

Students can learn more about navigating stress, sleep hygiene, and how to get support during the busy finals season. Bubble tea will be provided, students should visit our instagrams @wfucounselingcenter and @wfuthrive for more information about this event and to RSVP!
