WakeParents & Families

E-newsletter from the Office of Family Engagement

The fall semester is in full swing, and as such we have news about a couple of important initiatives we are focusing on at Wake Forest.

President Wente and Provost Gillespie have shared “Framing Our Future,” a strategic framework for Wake Forest University:

“The Framework and complementary content available at framework.wfu.edu are products of a year-long process that engaged the entire University community in affirming Wake Forest’s distinctive identity and articulating a vision for who we will become...

At the center of the Framework is our commitment to Pro Humanitate. Our unique value proposition, ‘Wake Foresters will embody Pro Humanitate at home and in the world,’ underscores our strong community identity and a commitment to reckoning with our past to inform our present and future. When we achieve our goals and strategic aims, Wake Forest will be a catalyst for learning and discovery, for innovation and society, and for access and opportunity. Wake Forest University will be a catalyst for good in society.”

At the start of the semester, the University also launched the 336.758.CARE (2273) referral line, a 24/7 consultation line for Wake Forest community members (or families!) who are seeking support for a student’s mental health and wellbeing.

Staff responding to the calls will assess concerns, provide supportive strategies for next steps, make appropriate referrals and connect students to necessary resources. There is also an online referral form if you prefer to submit a referral that way.

336.758.CARE is connected to the We are Wake initiative, which launched in Spring 2023. To learn more, visit we.wfu.edu.

Last but certainly not least, Family Weekend is almost here! The Family Weekend gametime is announced: The Demon Deacons will face off against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m. We can’t wait to see you later this month, and keep your eye on the Family Weekend website for full details about the weekend.

Resources

From the Office of Residence Life and Housing: It’s the start of fall in The Forest! This month we have links to residential reminders your student receives at the start of each semester, provide tips for supporting your students as they navigate roommate dynamics, and offer suggestions for #WFU27 for those of you with new Deacs. We also have a special move-in photo gallery just for P’27s! Read more.

From Transportation and Parking Services: Transportation and Parking Services offers airport shuttle transportation during designated break times throughout the school year. See shuttle information for Fall Break.

From the Office of Personal and Career Development (OPCD): September is the busiest month of the year for campus recruiting, especially for juniors and seniors. Encourage your students — of all class years — to take advantage of our many opportunities to prepare them to explore, learn, network and interview. Students can always make an appointment on Handshake to talk to a coach. College students can drop by the OPCD (Reynolda Hall, 2nd floor) between 1:30-4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday with quick questions. See our website for more information on what students should think about and do now.

From Student Financial Services:

  • Have your Deacs be on the lookout for an email from Student Financial Services in the next couple of weeks if they haven’t provided their Tax Identification Number (TIN) or Social Security Number (SSN) to WFU. We are required to provide all students a complete 1098-T Tuition Tax Form each tax year, and the IRS requires that the TIN/SSN be included on this form.
  • Wake Forest encourages students to sign up for Direct Deposit, as doing so provides students with a convenient and secure way to access their funds faster.

Athletics

From Athletics:

  • Family Weekend Game Time Announced: The Demon Deacons will face off against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Wake Forest still has a select amount of tickets remaining for our Family Weekend football game against Georgia Tech. All can still visit the GoDeacs.com website to purchase tickets and parking passes for this game. Act fast, there are less than 100 remaining. You can also use the link to purchase football tickets to the Pittsburgh, Florida State, and NC State games. NOTE: if your student wants to sit with you, you will need to purchase a separate ticket for them.
