WakeParents & Families
E-newsletter from the Office of Family Engagement
|
July officially marks the start of the 2023-24 academic year at Wake Forest. And we are just about a month away from the arrival of the Wake Forest Class of 2027! We look forward to welcoming our newest Deacs and their families for Move-in and Orientation — always a wonderfully exciting time in the life of our campus.
As we look to the start of school, we want to share a couple of process reminders:
- For students who plan to bring cars to campus, we want to draw your attention to vehicle registration, the dates of which vary by student classification: First-Year student information is here and all other students’ information is here.
- ALL students of all years need to either waive or enroll in our student insurance program before school begins. You can find information here.
- Family Weekend event registration is open. You can purchase tickets to the Family Weekend football game at our athletics website.
We wish your family a wonderful rest of the summer, and we can’t wait to have all our students back at the end of next month.
Go Deacs!
Betsy Chapman, Ph.D. (’92, MA ’94) Executive Director of Family Communications

Incoming families of the Class of 2027
|
From the Office of Academic Advising:
- While registration for Fall 2023 has come to a close, incoming students will be permitted to make changes to their Fall 2023 schedule before classes begin but following the mandatory small-group and individual meeting with their assigned academic adviser during New Deac Week (on August 25). It is very common for students to make changes to their schedule during this time, as well as once classes start, and students are encouraged to work closely with their assigned academic advisor (assignments will be made in August) on any registration changes.
- On a related note, your student should begin to become familiar with the firm deadlines on the Academic Services Calendar hosted on the Office of the University Registrar website, which contains important deadlines such as the last day to add and drop classes for the semester.
- Please visit the New Students Website for additional information on deadlines and to find resources to help you and your student prepare for the Fall 2023 semester.
From Student Financial Services:
- The fall 2023 statements have been issued and fall tuition is due on August 1st. Please ensure your student adds you as an authorized payer in DEAC so that you have access to view and pay the fall semester tuition and fees.
- Each student must choose to enroll in or waive the Student Blue Insurance (health insurance premium) before August 31st. Please go to shi.wfu.edu/enrollment for additional information and instruction.
From Global Programs and Studies (GPS):
- Does your child find it challenging to answer the question “Where are you from”? Are they a U.S. citizen who grew up abroad, moved around the world due to a parent's career, or were raised within a multi-cultural or immigrant family? If yes, the Center for Global Programs & Studies (GPS) invites them (and you!) to have lunch with other first-year students who can relate on Thursday, August 24 during New Deac Week.
- Third Culture Kids (TCKs) are often caught between cultures because their multi-layered identities are not easily categorized on official documents. GPS aims to connect them with peers in order to find camaraderie while adjusting to the academic, social, and cultural aspects of WFU. Interested in learning more? Have your student submit this form to get connected and RSVP for the lunch. Contact Sandra Lisle McMullen at mcmullsl@wfu.edu or +1.336.758.4889 with any questions.
From the School of Business:
- Families and students of the Class of 2027 are invited to attend an information session on August 3rd at 5 pm via Zoom to learn more about the Pre-Wall Street Career track. The track is open to first year students interested in exploring a career in the financial industry.
- The Pre‐Wall Street Career Track provides early and focused professional preparation for qualified Wake Forest students intending to pursue careers in Investment Banking, Asset Management, Sales & Trading, and Private Equity on a global basis.
- Please join us by registering for the Zoom call to learn more about the opportunities via the track. The session will be recorded and provided upon request for families who cannot attend.
- For questions or to request the recording, contact Program Director, Marty Malloy
We include P’27s in this e-newsletter so that you can see how we communicate with Wake Forest families. Please remember that the details and deadlines in the remaining sections of this e-newsletter only apply to currently-enrolled students (Classes of 2023-2026), not your incoming Deacs.

- Student Employment Opportunities and Required Documentation: Did you know there are a variety of on-campus employment opportunities available to WFU students, including Federal Work-Study jobs, when awarded as part of a student’s financial aid package, and general student employment, available to all students. These part-time roles help students gain transferable skills, build their résumé, and increase marketability while supporting a sense of belonging, connection, professionalism, and networking.
- The Student Employment Website is updated throughout the year with some of the latest opportunities. Additional roles may be posted on WFU departmental websites and social media.
- How to Help Your Student Prepare: Form I-9: Employees hired in the United States, including student employees, are required by federal law to complete the Form I-9. Employees must provide documentation to their employer to verify their identity and authorization to work. Employers are required to review the original and unexpired documents, not a photo, copy, or via video. A description of acceptable documentation is available on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Form I-9 website.
- If your student plans to pursue an on-campus employment opportunity this year, please remind them to bring their original Form I-9 documents when they arrive this fall.
